Yoga Teacher & Therapist

Andi Szentgyorgyi is the yoga and meditation teacher in Hamsa Studio. She leads classes in her studio, which is located in Drosia, Athens North, Greece. She offers retreats in Greece

TEACHER & THERAPIST

Andi is a Yoga teacher and therapist who is specialised in stress management. In particular, she helps people letting go of stress and feel calmer in their lives. Importantly, she integrates different techniques such as yoga, mindfulness, meditation and ayurveda practices for balancing the body and mind. She says,

‘I am committed to support you on your healing journey. May you have physical problems, or struggle with anxiety I will give you down to earth, applicable practices for your everyday life.’

MY YOGA JOURNEY STARTED WITH DANCING

‘My yoga journey started with dancing,’ she says ‘when I was little I was a dancer and I loved everything about it. Most importantly, I enjoyed the feeling of freedom that my body and mind experienced while moving. It lend me the feeling of connectedness and it was truly a medicine for my soul.

THE JOY OF MOVING WITH CONSCIOUSNESS

Afterwards, when I was not a dancer anymore, I was looking for a form of movement that would give me as much joy as dancing did. Finally, after much searching I found yoga, which was interesting, engaging, and exciting at the same time. Immediately, I was stuck, as I felt I that I arrived home.’

Besides her weekly group classes, Andi gives private yoga therapy in her studio.

TEACHING METHODS & THERAPY

Eventually, I realised that I love spending my days in a yoga studio, and I took up my first teachers training course. Undoubtedly, my main motivation is to help others. I feel deeply moved when my students tell me who specific breathing exercises, or asanas, help them with their problems. And how their illnesses are slowly eased and healed.

I design my yoga and meditation classes in a way that will give you a deep release. My aim is to give you a conscious and mindful break from your busy life. In particular, to take a deep breath of calmness and lightness, so you can continue afterwards with more ease.

‘Definitely, in every class I give, may it be a yoga and meditation session, a mindfulness retreat, an online cooking for health workshop, or a stress management consultation I have in my mind your best interest.

In conclusion, I will do my best to show you how to stay calm in your life so you can live it to your fullest potential.’

The five natural elements in balance: air, fire, water, earth and space are the corner stones of holistic health.

INSPIRED BY YOGA & AYURVEDA

  • My classes are based on the ancient idea of seeing the world as a constantly evolving mix of the five natural elements: space, air, fire, water, and earth.
  • Observing, how these elements create ease or dis-ease.
  • How our body and mind interact with each other and influence each other.
  • In what ways, our mental states calm, upset or bored create clarity, confusion, or inertia (sattva, rajas and tamas).
  • My aim is to help you find a way to live life with less stress, and to teach you how to cope with stress better.
  • Providing you with simple, effective, and seasonally changing yoga routines.
  • My studio was established with the vision of helping people how to find calm and peace in their everyday life.

Spices are the basis of mindful cooking. My daily mindfulness practice circles around food, and making space for relaxed cooking for health and wellbeing. Read more here.’

MINDFULNESS & MEDICINAL FOOD

One might ask how food comes into this mix? ‘What we eat, the kind of air we breathe, whom we meet during the day and how we go to sleep are all basic building stones of our health and wellbeing. May you get one of these wrong, and your wellbeing will suffer.

Cooking for me is meditation practice. It was not always like this. It used to be a chore. Something that I was not particularly interested. However, through my ayurvedic training I understood the importance of the routines.

I believe we cannot be happy and healthy if we don’t take care of ourselves. And since we must eat, I developed a new mindset and method of cooking. Mindful cooking is part of the way we can live a healthy and happy life.

  1. Be in service to my community. I strive to provide quality free and affordable information about yoga, ayurveda, mindful living and meditation.
  2. Create a model for my business that allows me to provide services for those who need it and not just those who can pay. The sliding-scale for my cooking workshops, for example, allows me to include people who would not be able to pay the full fee.
  3. Heal the children of my students and patients for free or for a reduced price depending on the financial ability of the family.
  4. Create free content where I give away valuable and quality information on how to improve the quality of your life through simple yoga exercises via my Instagram.
  5. Be a model of abundance joy and compassion, and to support others around me to rise together.

I believe in sharing is caring and will try to accommodate that in all situations.

BEING ETHICAL IS IMPORTANT

  1. Making money ethically. I believe in sharing my wealth as a means for helping to change the world and improve it for the next generation.
  2. Help other women because I believe when women are well the society is well and has a solid foundation.
  3. Taking time off regularly to rest and rejuvenate. I always create space in my weekly schedule to relax. I refuse to participate in oppressive working conditions and believe this is a way we change our economy and root out white supremacy culture.
  4. My own daily routine and practices, so that when I show up in the world I am ready to be supportive and present with my clients.

I AM COMMITTED TO

  1. Value your feedback. I will always listen and will take in your observations, however, I will not stand any bullying in my space. I support constructive feedback based on consent.
  2. Leading a minimalist lifestyle: I reduce waste, and buy non-packaged food whenever it is possible. Moreover, I cook most meals from scratch at home from locally sourced ingredients.
  3. Buy local and prefer shops of my community over large companies. Ready made meals are rarely consumed at my home, as I strongly believe that freshly made meal is the real deal.
  4. Our belongings are repurposed, mended or donated when we don’t need them anymore.
  5. I consume as little as possible and only buy as many things as I need.
  6. I am a vegetarian and support the reduction of greenhouse gases via a vegetarian diet. I walk wherever I can or cycle (but I will not shame or degrade anyone else’s choices).
